I don't really know what I need. But from what I have learned. I will need a mixer, and two CDJ things... deck?
I have no idea on brand, or models when it comes to mixers.
I've seen some CDJ things, but i wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between them.
I think I will also need an amp and a speaker, idk.
Could I hook my 5.1 desktop speakers into my mixer? that would same me alot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

My rule of thumb is spend as much money as you can on the CD players.
A bad CD player will have a huge effect on your mix.
A bad mixer will make almost no difference but may die rather quickly.
(But this is the cheapest part of your set up to replace)
If you want decks to use professionally, the CDJ 1000 is the ONLY choice.
Denon decks offer so much more functionality but thats no use when the f*cker dies on you in front of 700 people!
Numark make some amazing players at the price, as do Citronic.
(Basically they use the same Taiwanese factories to build them and just put different names on)
Numark offer better reliability and Citronic go for the extra 'toys/ functionality'
For bedroom mixing you have a wealth of choices, for pro mixing there is only 1 choice.
I play about 100 hours every MONTH in front of crowds, and if a club wants me, they
have to have CDJ'1000s installed otherwise I simply will not work for them. |

Well, IDJNOW has this promotion going on were they basically give everything to you for a very cheap price including speakers, amplifiers, cd player/mixer combo, and all the cables all for a very low price of 539.99.
Im not to sure on how good the equipment actually is but for a startout DJ you can startout with this and biuld your way up from ur earnings.

Def agree with chunky on decks. If money is a real issue you could go with the 800's. Almost half the price of the 1000's, real close in function other than the hot cues and biggest of all for blending, the per second breakdown on the platter screen, but still a good solid reliable deck that you'll have no problem segueing into the 1000's when you play out in a club.
I do however disagree with the any mixer in a storm though. (Sorry Chunks, but as a consolation your original Widow remix gets a great reaction whenever I drop it, Lol.) With all other equip being the same, the difference between playing through a Pioneer DJM or a Rane mixer is astoundingly noticeable on quality of sound. Plus if you're using Serato, your mixer is going to have to have effects, or you'll have to invest in an efx500, as it makes the effects on any deck useless. If you can get away with just a 2 channel I would recommend the djm 400, although it is a digital mixer unlike the 6, 7, and 800. For a few dollars more get the 600 and you pretty much are set good with decks and mixer.
If you're going mobile I'd suggest powered speakers, either the Mackie 450's or the JBL Eon G2 15's. The new QSC powered series are really off the hook, but they are a bit heavy since they are wood and not plastic.
Hope that helps. |
