| Hey I've been using dbpoweramp music converter but it never seems to actually get the mp3s to play in the correct order when I copy over to my mp3 player and every now and then bits and pieces of other people's tags are left in. I've been googling about this but haven't found anything relevant, probably because I don't know the correct terms. Help!? |

hey, i've never used dbpoweramp so i'm don't really understand the problem, but if its just to do with like the artist, album, title etc. tags on the mp3 i can help.
On windows '98 right click on the file and go to 'summary'. click on the 'advanced' tab and it should allow you to edit all of the nessecary tags.
On windows vista just click on the file and at the bottom of the window a section should appear automatically in which can re-write these tags.
Hope this helps. |

Well that's useful except my question is more about 1. how to clear all tags off of mp3 files and 2. how to get them to play in the correct order on mp3 players (I think it might have something to do with the date modified or something) |

To get them to play in the correct order on MP3 players (excluding iPod Shuffles and the like), make sure the track number field is correct.
To get all of the tag editing options in dbPowerAmp, you need to have a registered version so you can download the Power Pack. |

| if you want to wipe all of the track info then try converting into an alternative sound format (perhaps wma) and then back to an mp3. a bit hit and miss but worth a try. |

But if you re-encode, you lose quality. Isn't there a *right* way to do it? |

See above... you have to pay for the licence then download the power pack. That's the 'right' way to do it with dbPowerAmp.
You could also try the advanced tag editor in Windows Media Player. |

| I like using iTunes. You can at least get all files selected to the same Album and Artist name (for full albums). BUt it tkaes a certain amount of human intelligence to get files in correct order and with correct name so unless there were some universal file name and a program to transfer that to the tags it will always require a human to do it, right? or am i off here? |

Do the above instructions in the Summary side of things BUT select all the mp3 you want to do at the same time, wiping one tag will wipe them all then, as OTG siad make sure the track number field is filled in correctly.
Out of interest why do you want to wipe the id3 tags? |

We should've done a sticky on this by now as it comes up now and again and I think everyone here, producers and dj's alike ye'all need to take care of your sh*t.
One solution that I fully support is TagRename - we used to use it a LOT until we actually integrated XUpload into the site for all the uploading facilities. We use some groovy Mp3tag and mp3info linux modules to automatically edit Id1/2 tags but that's more than enough info. for most of you here.
Check out the screenshots too original poster! you won't be dissapointed.
If anyone wishes to write a detailed article on ID tag organisation skills and a selection of all the tools available for Win* and MAC we'll gladly throw some ca$h your way. PM me if you're interested ok.

If it still matters, I've used a freeware program called ID Tag Manager for a while. It was put out by code-it software but it seems they have dropped their free stuff. I found it here
http://www.freewarefiles.com/MP-ID-Tag-Editor-V_program_33059.html
if you are still looking for something. I've used it to tag my own stuff as well as to correct or improve other tags.
Please forgive me simply putting the link in as such, it has been a while since I've posted much to the web. |
