hyup all im sure we have all had this conversation before i know recently that my usuall customers that i sell my trcaks to no longer want to put money into vinyls so have decided to sell them on cd exclusively to the shop. now bassically what im saying is, is this gonna be a downfall for all producers or is it a start to somet new.
wats the future of underground music or sales. |

5-6 years ago there was stuff you could ONLY get on vinyl.
Now all the little shops are closing and your only gonna get that track on the internet.
Vinyl has been replaced with the likes of Beatport and other specialist download sites.
The one thing that is the biggest loss is not the format but the guys who work in the shops.
You would walk into your local plastic shop on a Saturday, have a cup of tea and
they guys gonna know your taste in music and what you usually buy.
I would get a handful of tracks to listen to and would usually take 1 or 2 without even
listening on the promise that 'I will definitely want these'
You cant get that from the internet. An automated service has no taste in music and
can only tell you what everyone else is buying.
Its a shame these shops cant sell promo CDs in the same way they have done vinyl. |

Yup, vinyl is a dead format, or at least it's nearly dead.
I used to get a little buzz while in the shop looking through the racks with a faint smell of new cardboard and vinyl going up your nose as your flip through those tunes until something catches your eye. I used to like talking to the guys who ran the local underground vinyl shop, it seemed like they were the only people on your level, you had a kind of instant bond through your love of music and DJing.
I think even CD will be nearly dead in the next 2-5 years, MP3 or another format like it will be king. |

| I think it's bad enough that we're losing the musical quality and warmth that vinyl gives a song, but cd or .wav is so superior in sound to quality then mp3. If you don't believe me listen to the same exact track, on high quality monitors recorded as a .wav and then recorded as mp3 directly from the master. The highs are harsher and tinnier and the lows are not as warm. The same thing happened when solid state started prematurely sounding the death knoll for tube amps with live musicians. As soon as bass guitar players realized they were losing the warmth of the bottom end tube made a comeback. |

more convinient for anyone who doesnt drive their house around with them... |

| its a real shame the vinyl is going down the drain and being replaced by mp3/cd's etc,but its alot easier taking 600 cd's/hd to a gig rather than a truck load of vinyl,i will keep my vinyl but at the same time record most of it into mp3 format |

| Well, I must be one in a million, but I'm about to get some mashups (only available as mp3) carved into 7" vinyl, because that's what I play and that's what I like. |

I'll have to resort to that as well, since I'm supposed to get some gigs in turntable-free environment this winter.
I only play vinyl in places where people actually know what a 7" is... |

| Vinyls aren't going out. I've seen people mold them into bowls to be used with your morning Wheaties. Place your tooth on the inside and spin the bowl... wa la! You're now a human phonograph adding an audio ambiance to your highly nutritional meal. |

| It depends on the genre is it not? i.e. if your into funky house then downloadable mp3's are the primary choice whereas if you are into bassline house (speed garage some might say), then this market segment is more dominated by vinyl. |

I play bassline your right that a lot of people still use vinyl but most licensed big tracks are now on i tunes b4 they are even pressed and with a big diffrence in price, so it makes sense to use cd's. |
