this new format sounds kinda cool, but mp3 is insanely popular and it probably won't die anytime soon. but i could see the mt9 format becoming more mainstream in the future.

I quite like the idea of having vocals on a sperate track, would make this site grow pretty quickly in size I guess.

Even if it doesn't knock MP3 of its thone as the everyday audio format I think MT9 will perhaps find a home in other applications like game design, or video editing or something along those lines.

i can't see mp3's ever dying as such. Unlike tapes & cd's they are an electric format so can be made to work with countless software & players. There may be better formats brought out but i bet you can bet your life they will still be going strong in 20 years time. Chances are that if a new improved format is brought out as 'the standard' you will be able to convert mp3 to it anyway (i hope).

The main problem people have with mp3s is that too much sound quality is lost. Take a lossless audio file, it's about 10 the size of an mp3. How can you reduce the quality of something by 10 and not have people complain? I for one love MP3s because they're so small and I don't notice too much about the missing audio data.

I hope they don't die. I just hope that they can improve the sound quality and yet still keep those tiny file sizes.
