I wanted to start work on a remix, but I ran into an issue.

I can't seem to match the drums and the acapella up using my sequencer. They were out of tempo. Is that even possible, or do I need to the actually play the drums on my own using a MIDI controller?

I'm working in Logic with Ultrabeat. You guys have any tips on how to use a sequencer to match my drum beats to the acapella?

I'd say, do your drumtracks first. they don't have to be perfect, just to get a general idea/feel for the track.

and then chop your acapella up, so ya can sync it up that way.

it works for me.

sometimes keeping the acapella as a whole file......well most times. you can't get it to sync up whatever you do.

hope this helps

THanks for the tip man...but the drums still wouldn't be the same tempo, right? How would I fix that?

By the way, I'd like to keep the original tempo, so the drums match to the acapella's tempo.

Weird...the drums and acapella doesn't seem to be really clicking. Maybe the acapella I"m using is too complex...

It may be it was recorded without a metronome.

I do a lot of 'change tempos' on small vocal cuts with Audacity ... I'm just learning but it's getting better and better the more I do it. It's nice because it doesn't change the pitch but you can speed up or slow parts down. You could also do the same for your drums in a separate track but I think it's prolly better to do the vocals... Good luck!

Start with a basic 4/4 beat & loop it. Then slice the acapella into small phrases & time stretch small vocal bits to fit. Then once you have one phrase it gets easier.
Adjust tempo & time stetching till it fits. Make length of drum loop longer etc.
Takes time but works for me.
If you want to keep the same tempo you have to use the metronome to get your vocal in time with the sequencer by moving the acapella to the start of a phrase/sentence that starts on the beat(doesn't happen often. It's usually before or after the beat).
Anyway if you look at some of chunkys old posts you will find a good description of how to do it.

Are you using the tempo that you get off of the acapella, or the tempo you get off of the instrumental or the original track?

That could give you messed up tempos, if you're using something like a BPM counter.
