Hey Everyone,
I had a quick question. What do you guys do when you can't get an acapella for a song you really want to remix? Is it possible to sample the song, do some creative EQ'ing and then lay new beats over the song? It obviously would still have a lot of the old song in it but can you make that work? Let me know if you guys have suggestions. Thanks!

| if it was on a promo cd along with the studio inst, then u could extract it. in all other cases i usually avoid it unless there is a light melody then i would remove the bass and get a beat to lay over it and try to cover as much as the original beat as i can with out drowning out the vocals. its tough and tricky at times |

if u can extract vocals from the song in no way (even if sometimes there are some dirty acapellas extracted from some dj’s), u can try to search for some remixes whose authors used the original studio acapella somehow (*) and try to extract an acapella from these versions... usually is a lot easier doing it from them, than from the original radio version
*(e.g., there's not a clean studio acapella of hung up by madonna, but there a lot of remixes from famous dj's that used it, maybe buying it with particular contracts or thanks to important friendships... one of them told me that were sent him Pro Tools files, and then he had to send them back, after the remix was done) |

yea like deskj mentioned when a big DJ or famous one gets a remix, the bits they ask for are usually sent, so they would get the original vocal wavs, and the seperate channels sent to them, famoud DJ's and remixers usually get asked to do the remixes and commisioned, my tutor in college has done remixes for some famous people and they just send him the wavs of each channel, or whatever bits he asks for.unless your undiscovered and use your talent on the unclean acapellas!
its hard to get just vocals yourself unless they are on a break, some major EQ and filtering helps a bit but, its still hard to get a clean acapella, unless you do what the other guys said with the instrumental |
